Organisation of the system
The KPG multilingual examination suite was institutionalized by law in 1999. It is governed by the Central Examination Board, appointed by the Minister of Education, and it is a low-cost service offered by the Greek Ministry of Education, on a national scale, to people living, studying and working in Greece.
The pen-and-paper examinations in six languages, organized and administered by the Ministry of Education, under the supervision of the Central Examination Board and the executive officers of the Directorate of Examinations and Certifications, are held twice a year.
The assessment scheme, the tests and the research ensuring quality, fairness and validity of test tasks are responsibilities of teams of experts working the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (for the exams in English, German, Spanish and Turkish) and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (for the exams in French and Italian). The expert teams at the universities are also responsible for training and monitoring examiners and script raters/markers.
